RACE INFORMATION

Welcome to the 56th Annual 3 Peaks Race

Please read the following notes carefully

RULES

  • The race is held under UK Athletics laws, FRA and 3 Peaks competition rules. Any breach of the rules will result in disqualification from the 2010/11/12 races which period may be extended.
  • You MUST carry the following equipment which will be checked at the start and may be checked at any other point on the course - compass, whistle, wind and waterproof jacket and trousers, emergency food, and MAP of the FULL ROUTE. If you are found without any of the required equipment you will be disqualified. It is also strongly recommended that you carry a space blanket in cold, wet weather.
  • On Race day
    1. One number will be issued which MUST be worn and clearly visible at all times.
    2. An electronic recording system will be used (see below for details). As you pass each checkpoint you must ensure that your “Dibber”, strapped to your wrist at registration, is inserted into the control box. Failure to do this may result in disqualification.
    3. Competitors must pass each checkpoint once only on the correct sequence.
    4. Competitors who have not passed Ribblehead in 2hrs 10 mins or Chapel-le-dale in 3hrs 30 mins will be timed out. An authorised doctor may stop any competitor at any time. Competitors who retire must advise the nearest checkpoint as soon as possible. If the nearest checkpoint is not the finish retirement must be reported again to race control as soon as possible. Competitors who continue to run after disqualification or who do not report retirement correctly endanger other competitors and face an extended period of disqualification from future races.
    5. Flags or other markers must be followed where provided.
    6. Late starters and unauthorised substitutions are not allowed.
    7. Substitution in 2010 will be on-line only and accepted between submission of entry and closing date only (no substitution on the day) Substitution can be with any other Club runner and not restricted to same Club subject to them meeting the Entry requirements
    8. The decisions of the referee are final.
    9. No dogs to accompany runners.

Hypothermia can kill. Make sure you are prepared.

Registration

Registration is on race day only and will open at 07:30am and close at 09.30 am. Make sure you register early. The race will start at 10.00am prompt. Make sure you are at the start by 09.50 am for a kit check prior to the start. Late starts are NOT permitted.

Electronic Timing and Control System

The race will be timed using the SPORTident Electronic Punching system; those of you who have done any of Martin Stone’s extravaganzas will be familiar with this system. If you have not, here is an explanation. At registration you will each be given a red electronic card attached to a lanyard. The card will be ready for use and should be placed over your head or attached to your wrist using the lanyard. It is best to use the wrist without your watch on! There will be a demonstration checkpoint at registration so you can familiarize yourself with punching. You dip the tip of the card into the hole in an electronic box at each checkpoint and you will see it flash and hear a beep – this confirms that the location and time have been recorded on your card. You do not need to do anything at the start of the race but at the finish you must dip your card. After you have finished, proceed to the download station near the finish line where we will dip your card and provide you with a printout showing your split times at each control and your total time. Please take care of the cards – each one costs £17.50 and if you break or lose it we will have to charge you. There will be several boxes at all the controls – they will be raised off the ground and are quick and easy to use.

Drinks

Drinks will be provided at the valley checkpoints but, if you prefer your own brew, place your suitably labelled container(s) in the boxes at race registration before 9.30 am. They will be transported to the checkpoints for you. Refreshment vouchers value £1.00 will be issued at registration and may be used at the pavilion on the field. Toilets are available on the field and in the centre of Horton.

Supporters

Please ensure that family and friends use the car park at Horton. The ticket is valid all day and the proceeds go to the Playing Fields Committee and help to provide and maintain the facilities on the field. Parking elsewhere in Horton is almost impossible. Car parking elsewhere on the route is restricted. Please do not obstruct the narrow roads and lanes. Parking at Ribblehead has been significantly restricted. Spectators must keep to recognised footpaths. The use of mountain bikes on footpaths is illegal.

If non competitors (including people who have been disqualified under the time or medical rules) continue to run on the course and even pass through checkpoints it causes untold confusion. This puts legitimate competitors at risk and will not be tolerated.

Prize Giving

We aim to hold the prize giving at 16:00 p.m. Please be there if you have won a prize. Trophies are held for one year and must be returned no later than the start of next year's race. Winners of trophies will be asked to sign a receipt.
